Students have an opportunity to participate in our Early Assurance Program (EAP) at Samford or another fully accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university. These students apply either as incoming freshmen directly from high school OR in the fall semester of their freshman year.
Application requirements are:
1. Submit an application to Samford or another fully accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university as a first-time, full-time freshman directly from high school with Pre-Pharmacy (or other school’s equivalent) as the listed major OR be enrolled as a college freshman at Samford or another fully accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university in the fall semester with Pre-Pharmacy (or other school’s equivalent) as the listed major.
2. Have a minimum 3.5 GPA (overall high school) and a minimum 3.4 "Pre-pharmacy Preparation” (PharmPrep) GPA at time of application. Courses in this PharmPrep GPA calculation include:
Biology, Chemistry, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Precalculus, and Calculus
Applicants must have completed 5 of the 7 courses listed above to be considered for early assurance.
3. Provide two letters of reference, one academic and one non-academic. To be invited for an interview, at least one letter must be received with the EAP application (if applying to Samford, this can be the letter of reference accompanying the Samford application). If accepted into the EAP, the other letter can be submitted at any point prior to March 1 of the PharmD application cycle. The academic letter should be from a teacher who has instructed the student and the other can either be from the high school Advisor/Guidance Counselor, a pharmacist, or anyone who can speak to the potential professionalism and character of the applicant. Letters are submitted through either Slate or the PharmCAS system. Letters from family members will not be accepted.
4. Have a successful interview involving members of the School’s Admissions Committee (Appendix 3). The Admissions Committee will then make a decision on each EAP applicant regarding admission to our PharmD program.
